2009 Milken Intern - Mike Berndt

Mike Berndt was chosen as the 2009 Milken Intern by the Lowell Milken Center in Fort Scott, KS. He will serve the internship in the summer of 2009. The Lowell Milken Center (LMC) Internship is designed to provide graduate students and early career educators with an opportunity to learn firsthand how projects teaching respect and understanding can make a difference in the world.

Mr. Berndt is a 3rd grade teacher at Prairie Center Elementary in Olathe, Kansas. He will spend time at the Milken Center this summer to study project based learning and develop an unsung hero project. In his short career, Mike has displayed leadership and sound teaching skills in every endeavor. His creativity is one of his strong points. Mike has been active with ESL, and has been the lead teacher for mathematics in his school, plus has been developing his grant writing skills. He graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Elementary Education. He has already received recognition from his school district. We are very excited about his tenure at the Center.
